Alcudia is one of the places in Majorca with the most outstanding history, geography and social dynamics. It is a town where history is ever present: the Roman city of Pol·lèntia, its two walled enclosures - one mediaeval and the other Renaissance - amongst many other features make Alcudia especially attractive. Alcudia was founded as a small town by King Jaume II of Majorca in 1325. The Emperor Carlos I bestowed it with the title of Ciudad Fidelísima (Most Loyal City).
The first tourist arrived in Alcudia at the beginning of the XX century, but the real tourist industry didn't develop until the 1970s, as in the rest of Majorca. The vast irrigated areas that the Albufera occupied were dried out and large hotel complexes were built in their place. Later, in the eighties, a new town-planning boom provoked a new wave of construction. Nowadays, Alcudia is dedicated totally to the industry of tourism and has more than 29,000 hotel places.
The municipal district of Alcudia is situated in the northeast of the island of Majorca, forming a peninsula of 60.51 km2 between two bays with many kilometres of coastline. This shoreline in some places is formed by sandy beaches and in others it becomes rugged coast. The municipality of Alcudia is divided into Alcudia (historical centre), Puerto de Alcudia (marina and coastal area), Alcanada (coastal urbanisation to the east of the port), Bonaire/Malpas (urbanisation to the north, on the way to the Ermita de la Victòria), and Es Barcarés (residential area situated between Alcudia and the Puerto de Pollença road).

The walls of Alcudia: genuine remains of the City's Past.
Fundación Yannick y Ben Jackober.
Alcudia Auditorium: a unique space with an attractive programme.
